Lorton's Week Ahead: The Workhouse Clay National Ceramic Exhibition, $15 Physical Screenings and Winnie the Pooh

What have you got lined up this week?

The summer is going by quickly, wouldn't you say? Here's a preview of coming attractions in the Lorton area: 

1. The Workhouse Arts Center is hosting the annual Workhouse Clay National Ceramics Exhibition 2013. The exhibition is an “Open Call” for functional and/or sculptural ceramic artworks, which will be judged by Virginia Scotchie, is a head of ceramics at the University of South Carolina. The public reception for the show will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Aug. 3, 2013. 

2. Gearing up for fall sports Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center will conduct sports physicals on Sat. Aug. 3, starting at 9:00 a.m. The physicals cost $15 apiece. No appointments are necessary. Click here for more

3. Don't miss Winnie the Pooh in Lorton this week! Starting on Saturday, Aug. 3, catch the lovable bear, Piglet, Eeyore and their new friends at the Workhouse Arts Center. Showtime is 1 p.m. and the running time is 75 minutes. Click here for more.  

4. This weekend is a good time for back-to-school shopping! From Aug. 2-4, you can enjoy Virginia’s August Sales Tax Holiday on School Supplies and Clothing. During this three-day period, purchases of qualifying school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and purchases of qualifying clothing and footwear selling for $100 or less per item will be exempt from sales tax. Some retailers are choosing to offer tax breaks on additional items as well to lure in shoppers, so you could score yourself some good deals on lots of shopping this weekend. 5. Have you been to Lorton’s CrossFit Liberation? Take it from us, they will get you into shape fast - but it takes a commitment. The business is growing at the Lorton gym, which hosts annual regional CrossFit competitions. BTW: They hold free introductory classes every Wednesday. Click here for more.
