The U.S. Amateur Public Links Tournament in Full Swing at Laurel Hill Golf Club

Day two of the 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship tournament at the Laurel Hill Golf Club is over. 


Here are the leaders so far (out of 156 players):

"These are amateur golfers, who, for the most part, no one on the public side will know about, but they will know them several years from now." said Kirk Mason, the general manager of the Laurel Hill Golf Course.

The weather has been stifling hot, with heat index temperatures well into the 100's. 

That didn't stop California's Eric Sugimoto, who tied the Laurel Hill course record on opening day with 7-under 63, and also tied the 2004 record for the lowest round ever played in an APL tournament. 

"This week has seen the hottest weather of the year," said Mike Trostel, curator of the USGA Museum. "Most people will be happy if the rain stays away."

Wed., July 17: The field has been narrowed to the top 64 players, and the first round of match play begins. 

Thurs., July 18: Second and third round match play

Fri., July 19: Quarterfinals and semifinals

Sat., Jul 20: Final (36 holes)

Between 500-700 spectators are expected at the golf club during the tournament. 

The U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship began in 1922 as an opportunity for public-course players to compete in the Master's tournament.
