Lorton Man Arrested for Unlawful Possession, Transport of 1,500 Cartons of Cigarettes

The cigarettes did not have the right tax stamps.

Sayed Marhoum, 46, of Lorton, was arrested for unlawfully transporting 1,500 cartons of cigarettes at 11:25 a.m. on Aug. 6, 2013. A Virginia State Police trooper stopped the suspect box truck on Interstate 95 near mile marker 130 at 11:25 a.m. and took possession of the evidence.

Marhoum was charged with:

  • Possession of cigarette packages without the required tax stamps;
  • Transportation of cigarette packages without the required tax stamps.
Marhoum was released by the officer on his own recognizance.

The Northern Virginia Cigarette Tax Board received information about the possible transport from the Richmond area of a large amount of untaxed cigarettes and notified the Virginia State Police (VSP) and Fredericksburg Police Department, said Natatia Bledsoe a police spokeswoman.
