ReplyFrom Lisa Kostmayer Whitesell on Facebook: Rain barrels are awesome. We have them hooked up to all our downspouts. Hubby has a pump and pumps the water uphill to the barrels sitting in the garden and the watering of the garden is easy. We bought the first two from Friends of the Rapp... Easy to make your own.

ReplyFrom Mick Lovin on Facebook: At my old house I made a rain barrel from an unused 33 gallon rubbermaid trash can. Used some plastic flex downspout pipe & cut the gutter at the right height to allow the flex to go right into the opening I made in the lid of the trash can. Also had a spigot at the bottom to be able to dispense the water...
1) my design needed some work
2) kids, no matter how many times you tell them to watch out for it, will step on the spigot & break it off...
3) it is amazing at how fast they fill up with even a little bit of rain...I figured I would need at least 5-6 same size or larger cans to catch overflow & not just lose 90% of what was coming down off the roof.

ReplyJoe, you have every reason to be proud. Not only for Josh serving in the U.S. Air Force Honor Guard Drill Team, but also for his excellent interaction with the school children (witnessed and photographed by me!). -Susan
