ReplyIn the afternoons on the southwest side of the park you will see a group of men smoking pot and drinking. Residents of the adjoining neighborhoods report that men sometimes sit in the underbrush and watch the play area with binoculars. Library staff often pick up trash in the park because the litter gets so bad.

ReplyMr. Sommer's article does not accurately represent the presentation made by the detectives at the meeting. I was at that meeting, and I am dismayed by the sensationalism and inaccuracies in Mr. Sommer's article. The two comments above are only two cases in point.

First, it is Dr. Melinda Freckleton NOT Eckleton. Second, previous reports say that the barn is in good shape ... it is not deteriorating, as stated in you lead of "The Bureau of Land Management, which oversees the deteriorating structure." (See previous Lorton Patch articles on the subject by Shawn Drury. Third, the real issue is not renovated barn or new barn. It is BLM's continued push to rid the Meadowood Recreation Area of horse boarding, which was promised in their 2004 plan for the site. The new barn BLM recommends would be so small it could not accommodate horse boarding. It is BLM's way of getting out of their 2004 promise to the community.
