Lorton Virginia Railway Express Station Platform Extension Project Put Out to Bid
The expansion will allow the station to accomodate eight-car train sets
The Virginia Railway Express Operations Board has approved a proposal to solicit bids for the construction of a 250-foot platform extension at the Lorton VRE Station. The $5.6 million project is funded by a state grant, a matching grant from Fairfax County and a grant from the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program. The addition will join another project at the station - the multi-million dollar second platform. Both projects are anticipated to meet current and future ridership demand.
