Ride free on the Express from now until April 12!
Need to get to Tysons from South Fairfax County? Starting Monday, the Fairfax Connector bus service will begin running new routes from the Lorton Virginia Railway Express Station, and Route 494 from Franconia-Springfield Metro Station and Greater Springfield to Tysons Corner. Buses will use the 495 Express Lanes. There is an introductory free ride period from March 18 - April 12 for the two new express routes (493 and 494). Fairfax County's Board will hold public hearings on both subjects Tuesday afternoon.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on further development in Tysons and proposed changes to child care laws during its meeting Tuesday, Nov. 20. Cityline Partners has proposed approximately 19 acres of development that would include office space, a hotel, retail locations and residential buildings south of Westpark Drive and near Westbranch Drive. The proposal – eight buildings as outlined in the plan – would total 2.5 million square feet of development within a half-mile of the Silver Line’s Tysons Corner Metro Station. Three express buses will run from Burke, Lorton and Springfield to Tysons starting in spring.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved on Tuesday the fares for the new express bus service that will transport residents from the Burke, Lorton and Springfield areas to Tysons Corner. The plan for the three bus services was approved in September, but the fare schedule was approved during the board’s meeting last Tuesday. According to a news release from Fairfax County, a regular one-way fare will be $3.65 per trip. Fares for senior citizens and those with disabilities will be $1.80. In addition, riders can also transfer to another local bus for free. Those who commute by rail and transfer to the express bus can receive 50 cents off the regular fare. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will hear a presentation from the Private Sector Energy Task Force Tuesday detailing how the county can begin to become greener and energy efficient. The task force, which is chaired by Leo Schefer, president of the Washington Airports Task Force, is expected to make a series of recommendations to supervisors. The recommendations may include mapping out how the county intends to meet its goal of a carbon-neutral Tysons Corner by 2030. The task froce also support incentives for property owners to invest in sustainable and green improvements to new and existing buildings in the county. The first of three express buses will run from Burke to Tysons. Routes from Lorton and Springfield set for next spring.
The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved Tuesday a series of express bus routes to Tysons Corner. The service will use the nearly completed I-495 Express Lanes to shuttle commuters from the Burke Centre Virginia Railway Express (VRE), Lorton VRE and Springfield VRE stations to Tysons. The three bus routes are expected to run every 15 minutes during rush hours, and one-way fares are expected to cost between $3.65 and $5.35.
