Five of the seven at large school board candidates answered questions at Hollin Meadows

Change, community input and fiscal transparency were common themes of all five of the at large school board candidates speaking atHollin Meadows Science and Match Focus School.  The differences came in the specifics. I misspoke on my response to the TJ question. The correct information is that about 50 kids per class drop out of TJ -- approximately 10%. That's too high. Ten candidates are vying for an at-large seat on the Fairfax County School Board. Patch has asked each of them a series of questions on discipline policy reform - a topic fast becoming a key issue in this crowded race. 1. Do you think the recent reforms passed by the school board changing the discipline policy were appropriate? Democrats Endorse Two School Board Candidates Without Majority

Incumbent Moon receives lone majority endorsement; committee votes to set aside bylaws to award remaining two

After two rounds of ballot voting and several special motions, Fairfax County Democratic Committee members endorsed Ilryong Moon, Charisse Espy Glassman and Ted Velkoff as their candidates in November’s Fairfax County School Board elections, at a Tuesday meeting that became heated when the group voted to depart from its endorsement laws and award two endorsements without a majority. “I think we chose three great candidates,” said Marc Greidinger, a Braddock District Board of Supervisors candidate and FCDC member. “What I tried to do in each vote was choose different people with different strengths. Actually, Charisse came to the fewest meetings. For the few months before the election, Ted, Greg and I went to every meeting and only missed meetings when two were scheduled on the same night. Since you attended only your own district meetings, I don't know how you would be in the position to know which candidates showed up in the other eight districts.
