The order was given after the Battle of Crooked River between Mormons and the Missouri State Guard. The Mormons were told to take what they could carry and leave the state or be exterminated. Missouri Gov. Kit Bond abolished the order in 1976. 3. On this day in 1964, actor Ronald Reagan's political career began with a speech for Republican presidential candidate Barry Goldwater. Exactly 24 years later, on Oct. 27, 1988, President Ronald Reagan ordered the U.S. Embassy in Moscow to be torn down after it is found to be infested with Soviet surveillance…
