Science fiction film buffs will want to check out the Workhouse Arts Center screening Saturday of the 1927 epic "Metropolis" with live music provided by percussionist Tom Teasley. The Plot The futuristic city of Metropolis seems idyllic and carefree. But Freder Fredersen, the son of the city's mastermind, discovers an underground network of the city workforce—poor, overworked and overtaxed people living hopeless lives. Society is sharply divided, and soon Fredersen falls in love with a prophet who foretells of a savior who will reunite the disparate factions. Positively hilarious, shockingly funny
"Miss Electricity" is just about the most fun you can have with your kids in Lorton. The latest show from the Workhouse Arts Center's Studio 3 for Young Audiences runs on Saturdays until Feb. 25, 2012. Violet (Anna Jackson) is a fifth grade outcast who has trouble remembering geography and wants to be remembered forever by breaking a world record. One day she's struck twice by lightning, and after recovering, she seems to mysteriously control electrical currents. A kid-focused, nostalgic experience
The children’s theatrical musical “Schoolhouse Rock” performed by the Studio 3 professional theater company at the Workhouse Arts Center is a high-energy romp for children of all ages, but parents will enjoy the showmanship of the cast.
