Yorktown rushing attack too much for Stallion defense.
Gerry Pannoni knew his Stallion defense faced a tall order in containing Yorktown running backs M.J. Stewart and Arturo Brown. Heading into Friday’s Northern Region Division 5 semifinal, the two combined for more than 2,000 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns on the season. Yorktown’s talented duo proved too much for a young South County defense. Both backs combined for 395 yards and five touchdowns on the ground to lift the Patriots to a 48-28 victory over South County Friday night at Yorktown High School in Arlington. The loss ended South County’s season. “We knew what they were about,” said Pannoni of Stewart and Brown. “They just beat us doing what they do. That’s the bottom line. The Lady Stallions beat Lake Braddock, 1-0 in overtime.
The South County varsity field hockey team took on Lake Braddock last Wednesday night in the Patriot District semi-finals. The Lady Stallions took home the win after going into overtime, 1-0. The team will participate in the region tournament Tuesday, Oct. 23.

The two-day tournament between the five schools was selected to be featured on Patch.
The golf regional tournament between Annandale High School, South County Secondary School, T.C. Williams High School, West Potomac High School, West Springfield High School and Lake Braddock High School is the winner of this week's Patch's "Game of the Week" poll for the Patriot District. This week's poll only received a single vote. The meet earned 75 percent of the vote in this week's poll, beating out a cross country meet between Lee High School, South County, T.C. Williams and Annandale, a volleyball match between Lake Braddock and T.C. Wlliams, and a field hockey game between West Springfield and Lee. The game will be featured on Patch later this week. Thursday showdown selected from Patriot District matchups to be featured on Patch.
Lee and Annandale High School fans bolstered their field hockey teams this week, helping the Thursday faceoff win Patch's "Game of the Week" poll for the Patriot District. The matchup earned 71 percent — about 10 votes — in this week's poll, beating out a golf match between T.C. Wiliams and West Springfield and two field hockey games between South County and W.T. Woodson and West Potomac and Lake Braddock, respectively. The game will be featured on Patch later this week. Will they go all the way to the state championship game again?
South County hired head football coach Gerry Pannoni last summer to replace Pete Bendorf, the school’s first and only head coach up until that point. Bendorf’s untimely departure reportedly left school officials scrambling to find a replacement as quickly as possible. The Stallions hired Panonni in late July, which put the team and its coaches in the unenviable position of working with an abbreviated timeframe of installing and learning new offensive and defensive systems and left many wondering if the Stallions would be able to adapt fast enough to be competitive. 3-0 Win Puts South County in First Place in Patriot District
On Wednesday night, the South County Secondary School Varsity Volleyball team exploded into first place in the Patriot District after a 3-0 win against West Springfield High School. Their 2011 record is 20-5. The Stallions are undefeated in Patriot District play this season. "They came into this season without knowing anything about me at all, and they gave me 100% trust," said South County coach Trista Barnhart. "I can't even take credit. They are all great girls." The Stallions won the first game 25-18, came back from a 17-22 defecit in the second game to win 25-23 and dominated the final game 25-14. The regular season is over, and South County will participate in the Patriot District Tournament. The first game is on Halloween at home. …

South County played West Potomac last night, not Annandale as I had posted, and beat them handily. On to the next round in the district tournament tonight at TC Williams at 730. The Stallions will play the winner of last nights Lake Braddock vrs. Lee game.   more ›
