On the Road: Travelers Sell Roadside Art in Lorton

It's all about the journey.

Three freezing travelers stood at the median at the Lorton exit off Interstate 95 on Tuesday morning. Clothed in layers, the trio held signs that read: "Travelers in Trouble - HELP" and "Art for sale! $5-$10." The temperature Tuesday afternoon was about 25 degrees in Lorton, and the three stood at the median with their dogs for more than three hours.  "We started from Oregon about a month ago, and I was helping a friend of mine repair a sailboat that he can take to Hawaii," said Bill Turner, 24, who was accompanied by his girlfriend Annabelle Von-Hoit, 21, and Joshua Madard, 20. Fairfax County Releases 'Electric Sunday' Schedule

From now until November, county residents can recycle televisions, computers and other devices free of charge.

Own some old electric equipment you want to recycle? The Fairfax County Department of Public Works and Environmental Services recently released it's 2013 Electric Sunday Schedule. From 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. on the days listed below, Fairfax County residents can turn in their televisions, computers and peripheral devices - including keyboards, speakers, printers, external drives and other such materials - and unbroken flourescent light bulbs and tubes, according to a County release. Electric Sundays are held at the  I-66 Transfer Station, 4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax and at the I-95 Complex, 9850 Furnace Road in Lorton. UPDATE: Woodbridge Man Charged with Setting Vehicle on Fire

Police and Fire investigators charged the man with setting a tow truck on fire at 8150 Richmond Highway in Alexandria.

UPDATE (Dec. 13, 3:35 p.m.): A Woodbridge resident has been charged with setting a tow truck on fire in Mount Vernon Wednesday. According to a news release from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, fire investigators charged Reu Cruz Ortiz, 32, of Woodbridge, with intentionally setting a vehicle on fire. Investigators charged Ortiz with two counts of destruction of personal property greater than $200, a class four felony, according to the release. Unlawful Entry (marked in yellow on above map), 8700 block of Susquehanna Street, 10/15/12, 10:30 p.m. A neighbor reported someone entered a vacant home. Officers checked and found evidence that someone had been in the home. Forced entry was made through a rear door. In separate and unrelated incidents: Larcenies (marked in red on above map) * No vehicle thefts were reported at the time.

The following items are from recent police updates through Oct. 10 from the Franconia and West Springfield police districts of the Fairfax County Police Department. Robbery (marked in blue on above map), 7800 block of Shepherd Hills Court, 10/7/12, 9:20 p.m. The victim was walking when three suspects approached. One displayed a gun and demanded money. The victim attempted to run. He was caught and struck with a fist. The suspects fled with cash. The victim received minor injuries. That said, we all want to know how our favorite restaurants stack up on cleanliness and sanitation. Inspectors grade restaurants based on critical and non-critical violations. Drowning in Pohick Bay (marked in red on above map), A 58-year-old Lorton man drowned in the waters of Pohick Bay around 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24. John R. Funk, of 10000 block of Midway Lane, was seen fishing from a kayak. Witnesses saw the kayak capsize about 100 yards from shore and the victim was seen swimming toward shore.
