VRE Riders Pay More Beginning July 1

The operations board approved a 4 percent fare increase.

Virginia Railway Express (VRE) riders will pay more beginning July 1. VRE's operations board unanimously approved a 4 percent fare increase to meet the rising costs for its contractors, fuel, and fees to access CSX and Norfolk Southern’s rail lines, officials said. New Fairfax Connector Express Routes Running From Lorton to Tysons Corner

Ride free on the Express from now until April 12!

Need to get to Tysons from South Fairfax County? Starting Monday, the Fairfax Connector bus service will begin running new routes from the Lorton Virginia Railway Express Station, and Route 494 from Franconia-Springfield Metro Station and Greater Springfield to Tysons Corner.  Buses will use the 495 Express Lanes. There is an introductory free ride period from March 18 - April 12 for the two new express routes (493 and 494). Lorton Virginia Railway Express Station Platform Extension Project Put Out to Bid

The expansion will allow the station to accomodate eight-car train sets

The Virginia Railway Express Operations Board has approved a proposal to solicit bids for the construction of a 250-foot platform extension at the Lorton VRE Station.  The $5.6 million project is funded by a state grant, a matching grant from Fairfax County and a grant from the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program. The addition will join another project at the station - the multi-million dollar second platform. Storm Damages Car Windows in Lorton VRE Parking Lot

Severe thunderstorms on Saturday knocked out power to some areas and damaged cars that were in the lot after hours.

Last Saturday's violent storm that tore through Northern Virginia and left more than 100,000 without power also damaged the windows of 29 vehicles at the Virginia Railway Express Station in Lorton. "In my 11 years that I have been here, we've had some doozies as storms, but never one that caused such damage over an isolated location," said Mark Roeber, a VRE spokesman.   The storm blew in at around 3:49 p.m. and blew down several trees and scattered debris, according to the National Weather Service.  "That has never occured before, and may never occur again," Roeber said, adding that VRE has cleaned up some of the damage. "We've been trying to get rid of it as we can. The problem for it is that the Lorton lot is not just for VRE, it is …

Fairfax Connector May Use Hot Lanes to Link VRE to Tysons

Public meeting scheduled August 22 to review plans.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will hold a public meeting this Wednesday (Aug. 22) to discuss the proposed new Fairfax Connector service that will use the 495 Express Lanes.
