Every vote/dollar counts in the race for Virginia's 42nd District
Jack Dobbyn, Virginia's 42nd District Democratic candidate, got some fundraising help on Sunday by Terry McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee Chair and 2009 Virginia gubernatorial candidate. The fundraiser was held at Reed Stockman's home in Fairfax Station and was attended by about 20 local Democratic supporters. "If you support me and I get elected, you'll have an advocate down in Richmond who fights tirelessly for our democratic priorities," Dobbyn told the audience. "If you want to help the campaign, there's three things you can do: Volunteering, telling people there's an election and supporting us financially." With 43 days and two debates left until election day, Dobbyn is in sore need of cash. As of Aug. 31, he …

He's the Democratic nominee for Virginia's 42nd District
Call him the underdog. He's got less money, experience and friends than his Republican opponent, incumbent Dave Albo, but Jack Dobbyn still knocks on doors four hours a day, five days a week (He's lost 15 pounds since mid-May). Dobbyn is the Democratic nominee for Virginia's 42nd Delegate District. Without financial support from the Democratic Party of Virginia, Dobbyn, 30, is running a bare bones campaign. Education and transportation are his main issues. "I love meeting people," Dobbyn told Patch while door-knocking on Tuesday, August 16. "This is how you find out what people really care about. I grew up in Mount Vernon where on Route 1 you have the haves living right next to the have nots and it has always surprised me." Dobbyn will …

Held campaign kickoff at Cardinal Forest Elementary School in Springfield
Jack Dobbyn has his work cut out for him if he wants to defeat Del. Dave Albo (R-42) in November. "This campaign is winnable. We can beat Dave Albo," said Dobbyn, a Democrat, on Sunday to supporters at his campaign kickoff at Cardinal Forest Elementary School in Springfield. "A lot of people are apathetic about the chances to beat Dave Albo. I'm not." Can Dobbyn, president of the Fairfax County Young Democrats, defeat the 17-year incumbent? As of June 30th, his campaign had $21,810 in the bank versus $72,905 for Albo. In 2009, Albo defeated Democratic challenger Gregory Werkheiser by 11,767 votes to 9,006 votes in the most expensive delegate's race in Virginia's history. Albo raised and spent $927,217, and Werkheiser raised $781,828, of …

Faces opponent Jack Dobbyn in November
Dave Albo is the most senior Northern Virginian Republican member of the Virginia House of Delegates, but don't let that fool you. He will still have to fight for reelection. "My district has been Democratic for the last 10 years," Albo told Patch from his office on Old Keene Mill Road in Springfield. "It voted more than 60 percent for Barack Obama in 2008. But one of the things about Northern Virginia is how highly educated people are. So, people don't just go into the booth and vote like robots here, and the way I've managed to be successful in all my elections is that I just work my ass off." The tide of a local election can be turned by a few hundred votes. In 2009, Albo defeated Democratic challenger Gregory Werkheiser by 11,767 votes…

Improving traffic, education are top priorities for political newcomer.
Political newcomer Jack Dobbyn has embarked in a campaign that the Washington Post has dubbed one of the "most competitive House races in the state." Dobbyn, a Mount Vernon native, anticipates the challenge. Last week, he announced his candidacy for the House of Delegates’ 42nd District and will take on longtime Republican incumbent Dave Albo, who is running for his tenth term in office. Dobbyn, who is the Vice President of Operations at his family’s real estate business, became highly involved with the Fairfax County Democratic Committee in the late 2000s and served as treasurer of the Lee District Democrats. He currently serves as the chairman of the Fairfax County Young Democrats. “The more I got involved, the more I realized there was…
