Tutti Frutti Opens at Gunston Plaza

How does pink lemonade yogurt mixed with chocolate and topped with granola and gummi bears sound? Well, here you can be very picky.

International frozen yogurt chain Tutti Frutti opened its doors to Lorton on Tuesday. The store, which offers more than 50 flavors and a boatload of toppings, is located at 7756-D Gunston Plaza. "We opened just in time for spring, although we hoped to open a little sooner," said manager David Choi. "Our frozen yogurt is a healthy alternative to ice cream. We still have candy toppings, but we also have fruit toppings and yogurt without sugar, soy-based ice cream and other alternatives with virtually no fat."  The 2,400 square-foot storefront is next door to Papa John's Pizza.   Christina Davies is the director of Madison Marquette, the Gunston Plaza landlord. "Madison Marquette is very excited to have Tutti Frutti join Gunston Plaza," she …

Purpose Regained: Getting a New Start at the Lorton Senior Center

Patch spoke with members and staff on what the fuss is all about.

The Lorton Senior Center is designed to keep its members busy, and that's exactly what they want.  "But it's not daycare," said Anne Miller, senior center director, in a recent interview with Patch. "We don't supervise people coming and going or how often they take medication. We keep people engaged in life and we focus on independence, self-reliance and fun."   The center, one of 13 in the County, is sponsored by the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services. It opened in 1990 and moved to multiple locations before settling at its current location at 7722 Gunston Plaza in 1996. Membership costs are $48 annually, and classes are either free or $5. The facility includes: a game room (with pool table, ping pong table, …

Photo: Computers and More Computers at Geeks & Wireless in Lorton

Where do you go when your computer fries in Lorton?

Geeks & Wireless, 7716 Gunston Plaza, has offered computer repairs, updates, spyware and virus scans since 2004. They even make house calls. The Chaudry family owns and operates the store. "Only members of the family work here," said co-owner Talha Chaudry to Patch. "We want customers to feel respected, which is what you expect from a family-owned and operated business."  Geeks & Wireless also buys and trades computers. They'll buy a Macbook Pro in good condition (after they test it) for up to $400, said Chaudry. Standard computer repairs range from $30-$70.  Are you following us on Facebook and Twitter? Visions for Vacancies: 7742 Gunston Plaza in Lorton

What kind of business do you want to see here?

There's an open storefront at 7742 Gunston Plaza! The small shop was home to Parcel Plus for over a decade, and is next door to the Seoul Taekwondo Academy.  The landlord didn't get back to us, so the square footage of the space remains in question. There are no signs of renovations in the center unit space, and it's smaller than most properties in the plaza. The location has plenty of parking, however, and shares hundreds of spaces with neighboring businesses. Are you following us on Facebook and Twitter? It takes less than a minute... Gunston Plaza is home to the Polo Grill Restaurant, the Department of Motor Vehicles, Gunston Flowers and more than a dozen shops and restaurants.

A hardware store, like the old Fischers, would be great and I would like to see a boutique style clothing store; there is nothing like either one that is closeby. Since I work at Lorton Senior Center, I know how important and convenient the shops in Gunston Plaza are to the members and the center too. The Senior Center becomes a one-stop-shop, where most of their essential business can be taken …   more ›

Woman Attacked at Gunston Plaza McDonald's

One teenage suspect is in custody and police are looking for two more.

A woman was beaten at a McDonald's drive-thru in Lorton, and Fairfax County Police are still on the lookout for two suspects in connection with the Dec. 20 incident. "It happened so fast," said the victim, 27-year-old Rakia Parker, to MyFoxDC.com. Parker's nose was broken and her cheekbone fractured when, from her car in the drive-thru of the Gunston Plaza McDonald's, she honked her horn and asked a group of males standing at the drive-thru window to move.  "...Two of them just started punching me through the window all up the side of my face. The whole time he was punching me, he said absolutely nothing," Parker told MyFoxDC.  One suspect, Daniel Kim, was arrested at the scene and charged with assault and drunk in public. Police did not …

Lorton Restaurants

Polo Grill Closes, IHOP Moving In

A Lorton landmark is no more.

The booths at the Polo Mediterranean Bar & Grill have been auctioned off, the walls are bare and the doors are closed for good. Wednesday was the last day of business for the Gunston Plaza restaurant, and new owner IHOP will begin renovation this February.  "I can confirm that we will be opening at that location in Lorton next year," said IHOP spokesman Craig Hoffman to Patch. "The restaurant will open hopefully by next summer, or sooner."  Polo Grill co-owner Archie Zora spoke briefly to Patch after auctioning off the restaurant's furniture on Thursday night. "I don't know about the sale. The landlord sold the place," said Zora, who declined to comment further.  Polo Grill (originally Gunston's Restaurant) opened in 1989, and was sold two…

There's an open spot in Lorton at 7778 Gunston Plaza Dr., and according to the poster on the window it looks like a great place for a restaurant. The 2,240 square foot location used to be a flooring company with a showroom. It is located between Gunston Flowers and the Lorton Barber Shop.

Dunkin Donuts---The plaza needs an upgrade in a big way. Lorton is becoming a community of its own. People are moving here. I hope the mcdonalds is going to be renovated. How about the former sunrise center, what is the plan for that building. Lorton is no longer the dump or the prison. people love it here.   more ›
