Support Victims of Domestic Violence Saturday at 'K-9 Krawl'

Fairfax County Police Department's Victim Services Section sponsors annual event.

So far in 2012, there have been 1,796 people charged with assault against a family member in Fairfax County, according to a news release from the Fairfax County Police. To help victims of domestic violence, Fairfax County Police Department's Victim Services Section created the Annual K-9 Krawl 5K, which takes place at the Fairfax County Government Center. Walk to Help Mental Health Programs Set for Saturday

NAMIWalks to hold event in Fairfax County to raise money for cause.

The Northern Virginia affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is holding their annual NAMIWalk at the Fairfax County Government Center Saturday, Sept. 22. The event raises major funds every year for mental health programs in Northern Virginia. This year’s event has a rock ‘n’ roll theme, and there will be music, food, balloons, a team T-shirt contest and lots of prizes. Registration for the event begins Saturday at 9 a.m., and the 1.5-mile-long walk will start at 10 a.m. Participants are asked to register before the event, but registration will be permitted on Saturday as well. Earth Day Events Across the Region

Organizations have collaborated to provide activities and events throughout April.

Many organizations are collaborating to provide Earth Day opportunities in Fairfax County and the Washington, D.C., area.  Events and activities are listed here by date and time. Saturday, April 21 9 a.m. to noon - Cub Run RECenter will host a free Roots & Shoots Earth Day event for kids five and older and their families. Participants will interact with nature and learn about the environment and endangered species. Activities include planting, weeding, mulching, trash clean-up and crafts for kids.    10 a.m. to Noon - Stop by for an Earth Day celebration at the James Lee Community Center.
