Virginia General Assembly Begins Wednesday

Area lawmakers head to Richmond.

The Virginia General Assembly will convene at noon Wednesday for its 2013 session.  In odd-numbered years, the General Assembly meets for 30 days, with the option to extend the session for a maximum of another 30 days.  The General Assembly consists of the House of Delegates with 100 members and the Senate with 40 members. The 140 elected representatives are from an equal number of constituent districts across the Commonwealth. Jack Dobbyn Kicks Off Campaign

Jack Dobbyn has his work cut out for him if he wants to defeat Del. Dave Albo (R-42) in November.  "This campaign is winnable. We can beat Dave Albo," said Dobbyn, a Democrat, on Sunday to supporters at his campaign kickoff at Cardinal Forest Elementary School in Springfield. "A lot of people are apathetic about the chances to beat Dave Albo. I'm not." Can Dobbyn, president of the Fairfax County Young Democrats, defeat the 17-year incumbent? As of June 30th, his campaign had $21,810 in the bank versus $72,905 for Albo.
