Check your Powerball tickets! One person from Virginia won $1 million in Saturday night’s $590,500,000 drawing. The grand prize winning ticket was sold in Florida, according to Powerball officials. The winning Powerball lottery numbers from Saturday were 10, 13, 14, 22, 52 and the Powerball was 11. To win $1 million, you must match the five numbers (but not the Powerball number). Del. Albo Recognized with Three Service Awards By Virginia Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber gave Albo and 28 other legislators an "A".

Del. Dave Albo (D-42) was given three awards last week for his 2013 voting record by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce. The chamber awarded Albo an the “A” with the Champion of Free Enterprise Award, a legal reform advocate award and an economic competitiveness award.  “Businesses create jobs, and if we want more jobs and higher paying jobs, we need to help businesses thrive," said Albo. Fairfax County Police to Get New Police Vehicles

FCPD provided information about the new police cruisers during the recent CAC meeting at Franconia District Police Station.

Fairfax County police officers are saying farewell to their old cruisers as the department purchases 127 Ford Police Interceptor sedans and utility vehicles in FY2013. Retired Lieutenant Chalrie Bond — who is now the director of the logistics and property division for the department — conducted a presentation during Wednesday night's Citizen Advisory Committee meeting. Bond said Ford Motor Vehicles recently discontinued the Crown Victoria Police Interceptors. The 2007 model was the last of its kind. FCPD has 1,500 vehicles — 762 which are assigned to eight stations, and Franconia District Police Station has 109 of those vehicles alone, Bond said. The current cruisers are large four-door vehicles with a V8 engine and upgraded brakes and …

Poll: Is .05 Too Drunk to Drive?

The National Transportation Safety Board has recommended lowering the legal blood alcohol content limit to 0.05 from 0.08. Tell us: Would you support a lower BAC? Do you think it would curb drunk driving?

Having a few drinks at that summer barbecue? You may soon have to be even more careful before getting behind the wheel. This week, the National Transportation Safety Board voted on a recommendation that would lower the legal limit for drivers' blood alcohol level to 0.05, arguing it would significantly reduce the drunk driving-related deaths reported each year. In Virginia and DC, along with all other states, the legal limit is now 0.08 — the equivalent, for a 180 pound man, of around four 12 oz beers in an hour, according to this blood alcohol content (BAC) calculator. A limit of 0.05 would hold a 180 pound man to fewer than three beers an hour before he gets behind the wheel; a 140 pound woman would be just over the limit after consuming…

Maybe years ago in a land far far away - not Virginia and certainly not Fairfax County. Years ago cops were allowed discretion and not pumping up numbers and judges had discretion as the constitution is supposed to provide. NOW Virginia does not allow the judge discretion except to increase penalties it is up to the charges filed by the Commonwealth Attorney who "piles on" to threaten the most …   more ›
