Volunteers Tidy Up Mason Neck

Keeping Lorton Beautiful

On a frosty Saturday morning, seven volunteers came to collect roadside litter from Old Colchester Road on Mason Neck.

Undeterred by below-freezing temperatures, the volunteers picked-up seventeen bags of litter, sixteen discarded tires and other trash from both sides of Old Colchester Road.

Charles Keeney, a resident of Old Colchester Road did not receive an announcement of the clean-up but help out when he saw volunteers picking up trash in front of his residence. Charles donated three hours of his free time, cleaning over one mile of roadside and filling many bags with litter.

Employees of the Noman M. Cole, Jr. Pollution Control Plant also cleaned-up trash along their facility on Old Colchester Road during the workweek. Two full bags of aluminum cans were collected for recycling (Bud Lite is the beer of choice!).
