Voting Ends: Mason Neck State Park in Second Place on Final Day of Voting in 'Best Park in America' Contest

Mason Neck State Park was in second place in Coca-Cola's annual "Live Positively - Best Park in America" contest as the contest drew to a close at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 15. 

"We're just about as excited as we can be," said Mason Neck State Park manager Jess Lowry on Monday afternoon. "There's been a lot of energy at the park." 

Veterans Memorial Park in Moore, Ok. is in first place with 458,535 votes. Mason Neck has 398,690 votes as of Monday, July 15 at 6:30 p.m.
Mason Neck, which sits on hundreds of wooded acres along the Potomac River, is a habitat for eagles and other migrating and non-migrating birds. 

The top three vote getters receive $100,000, $50,000 and $25,000.

"The check doesn't go out to me," said Lowry. "Several years ago we added an addition to the visitors center at the park, but we never got funding to do the interior exhibits."
