The Summer Reading List from the Lorton Library

Thought you'd just watch TV all summer? Think again.

Thousands of area kids will enjoy their summer, and sometimes a good book will be in order.

Anne Heising, a librarian at the Lorton Library, spent the last few weeks of school speaking to over 4,000 students about the Fairfax County Public Library system’s summer reading program.

“I encourage kids to go and read books they are interested in, because they’re just beginning to define who they are,” said Heising to Patch. “But this has nothing to do with school. It’s all about their personal enrichment. It’s a chance for them to do something for themselves.”

Kindergarteners - sixth graders are asked to read 15 books, and seventh - 12th graders are asked to read eight books. Those who complete the task by Aug. 31 will be given a coupon book (get a free donut at Krispy Kreme, a discount at Splashdown Waterpark, etc.).
