Here's what's happening in Lorton schools this week:

Newington Forest Elementary School

  • This Thursday is the last day for after school volleyball at 3 p.m.

Laurel Hill Elementary School

  • Tuesday the 15th is the deadline for Box Top Collection
  • Jump Rope for Heart during Gym class on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
  • Friday is the deadline for online registration for the Language Immersion Program.

Lorton Station Elementary School

  • Report cards will be sent home Tuesday, February 15.
  • There will be Tae Kwon Do for children in grades 3 through 6 Tuesday, February 15 from 3:50 to 4:40 p.m.
  • Cook with Books will be held February 15 from 4 to 5 p.m.
  • The Lorton Station S.H. P Meeting will be held February 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the LSES Library.
  • Creative Kids for grades K through 2 will be held February 16 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.
  • Bigger Little Fingers Electric Guitar will be held February 16 from 4 to 4:30 p.m. at LSES.
  • Group Guitar will also be held February 16 from 4 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Creative Kids for girls in grades three through six will be held February 17 from 4 to 5 p.m. at LSES.
  • Tae Kwon Do for grades K through 2 will be held February 17 from 4 to 4:50 p.m.
  • Bigger Little Fingers Violin will be held February 17 from 4 to 4:30 p.m. at LSES.
  • Electric Guitar will also be held February 17 from 4 to 4:30 p.m. at LSES. Group
  • Violin will also be held February 17 from 4 to 4:30 p.m. at LSES. 
  • A group of select students in grades K-6 will participate in WIDA testing.
  • From February 14 to the 25, counselors from Lake Braddock will be available to discuss seventh grade course options.
  • Middle School Curriculum Night will be held at Lake Braddock on February 14. An honors presentation will be held at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. A Special Education Presentation will be held in the Lecture Hall at 6:30 p.m. Welcome & Registration Information will be held in the cafeteria at 7:00 p.m.

 Gunston Elementary School

  • Gunston Elementary School will hold Pohick Tutoring February 18 at 7:00 p.m.
  • A Head Start Parent Meeting will be held, Saturday, February 19 at 9:30 a.m.

Halley Elementary School

  • Halley Elementary School will hold a 6th grade field trip February 15 to the American Art Museum in Washington, DC.
  • A fire safety presentation will be held for children in kindergarten and second grade.
  • PTO Electronic Kinetics will be held at 3 p.m. February 15. PTO Mad Science will be held at 3 p.m. as well.
  • A sixth grade field trip to the American Art Museum will take place Wednesday, February 16.

South County Secondary School

  • The South County Secondary School will hold a Tri-M Meeting from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, February 14.
  • Rising Seventh Grade Academic Advising will take place Tuesday, February 15. This is an all-day event.
  • A PTSO Meeting will also be held February 14 from 7 to 9 p.m.
  • An 11th grade career unit will be held during history classes will be held Tuesday, February 15.
  • HS days of Academic Emphasis will be held Tuesday, February 15. Rising 7th grade academic advising will be held February 15.
  • Curriculum Night will be held February 15 in the auditorium from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
  • Eleventh grade career unit during history classes will be held February 16.
  • HS Days of Academic Emphasis will also be held. Spring Sports Information Night will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on the 16th.
  • Junior Math League will also be held.
  • Eleventh grade career unit during history classes will be held February 17.
  • Rising Seventh Grade Academic Advising will also be held. Rising 9th Grade Academic Advising through PE will also be held.
  • Rising Seventh Grade Academic Advising, along with Rising 9th Grade Academic Advising through PE  will be held Friday, February 18. 

Hayfield Elementary School

  • Parents and students interested in the Health and Human Services professions may be interested in attending the Falls Church High School Academy Informational Dinner on Tuesday, February 15. Please join Academy teachers and students in the cafeteria at 6:00 pm for a free pasta dinner, prepared by Culinary Arts students, to be followed by brief presentations describing the Academy programs offered at FCHS.
