Police Investigation Delays School Dismissal

Police were investigating a pharmacy robbery near Lorton Station Elementary School and held students out of an "abundance of caution."

Students going home from Lorton Station Elementary School were delayed for some time this afternoon due to a reported police investigation in the area.

Police were investigating a robbery of a pharmacy in the 8900 block of Lorton Station Boulevard, and held students at the school "out of an abundance of caution," Fairfax County Police Department Public Information Officer Lucy Caldwell said.

I had heard from my daughter in law that the Rite Aid pharmacy in Gunston Plaza Shopping center was robbed the previous afternoon. Scary for employees and customers alike.

We got a letter sent home with my son from Lorton Station Elementary today. I would encourage all parents to update their emergency contact info with the school. There were MANY parents in our neighborhood that did not get any word of the lock down until they called the school. Also, many are not familiar with the "Keep In Touch" system the school is relying on to send out these notices. My understanding is that KC Pharmacy was robbed at gunpoint yesterday near dismissal time.
