Stallion field hockey, football and volleyball

South County Field Hockey (10-4):

South County field hockey went 1-1 this week. The Stallions defeated West Potomac 2-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and lost 1-0 in overtime to Oakton (10-2) on Thursday, Oct. 6.

Alexis Schraam and Erica Smedberg each scored one goal and Caroline Karwel and Isabel Josephs added one assist in the team’s victory over West Potomac (6-8-1). The win gives South County a 5-0 Patriot District record. The Stallions travel to West Springfield (12-2) on Thursday, Oct. 13 for their final regular season contest.

JV Field Hockey (4-1-3):

The Stallions defeated West Potomac 1-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and close out their season on Thursday, Oct. 13 at West Springfield.

Freshmen Field Hockey (1-4-2):

Freshmen field hockey defeated Yorktown 2-0 on Wednesday Oct. 5, and lost to Oakton 2-0 on Thursday, Oct. 6. The team plays at West Springfield on Thursday, Oct. 13 for the final game of the season.

South County Football (3-3):

Stallion football currently owns a three-game win streak. South County defeated Lake Braddock (3-3) 10-7 on Thursday, Oct. 6 for their second consecutive overtime victory. Michael Ferguson hauled in a 33-yard touchdown pass from Shane Foley in the game’s second quarter and kicked the game-winning 34-yard field goal to give his team the overtime win.

The win brings South County’s Patriot District record to 2-1 on the season. The team travels to Lee (4-2) on Friday, Oct. 14 in a pivotal Patriot District matchup.

JV Football (1-2-1):

The Stallions tied Lake Braddock 48-48 on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Lee travels to South County on Thursday, Oct. 13.

Freshmen Football (1-2):

Freshmen football lost 21-20 to Lake Braddock on Wednesday, Oct. 5. They host Lee on Thursday, Oct. 13,

South County Volleyball (15-5):

South County emerged 2-1 from a brutal three-game late-season stretch. The Stallions grabbed a huge 3-1 win over Woodson (14-3) on Wednesday, Oct 5, winning matches 25-23, 28-26 and 25-19. Allison Bruder lead the team in kills with 16, Dana Robertson contributed with 17 digs and Katherine Gerton, Regan Jansen and Macey Lutz each added one block.

The team lost 3-0 to Stone Bridge (15-2) just one day later, but rebounded to beat West Potomac (3-11) 3-1.

Only five games remain in the regular season.

South County travels to Annandale (1-11) on Thursday, Oct. 13 and hosts Lee (6-9) on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

JV Volleyball (7-3):

The future looks bright for South County’s varsity volleyball program. The JV team won two out of three games this week, giving them seven wins on the season. The Stallions defeated Woodson 2-1 on Oct. 5 and West Potomac on Oct. 11. Stone Bridge defeated the team 2-1 on Oct. 6.

After an Oct. 13 trip to Annandale, the Stallions return home to host Lee on Oct. 18.
