South County Secondary named 30-year coaching veteran Gerry Pannoni as its head football coach Friday afternoon.
"We are very excited for our kids to get someone like Gerry with the experience that he brings as a head coach for 10 years. He's been successful on and off the field and he's a member of our community," said Mike Pflugrath, South County director of student activities. "He's a great fit for us."
Pannoni, a Lorton resident, met with South County players at noon on Friday and is meeting with his coaches at 3:00 p.m.

"We're trying to hit the ground running, there's not that much time," said Pflugrath.
Pannoni previously coached at Centreville for three seasons. His resume includes two-time District Coach of the Year and Region Coach of the Year honors. Pannoni is also president of the Northern Virginia Coaches Association.
