Tito Munoz Concedes

Tito "The Builder" Munoz will be back, he pledged to supporters after conceding the Republican Primary for Virginia's 36th State Senate District.   defeated Munoz 69.07% to 30.92%, in a low turnout election. An expected five percent of the electorate voted today, which was highlighted by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake. 

Munoz was defeated 3,625 votes to 1,623 votes. 

"I'll be back! Next time we'll be prepared, we'll do it better and we'll be back," Munoz told supporters at the Polo Grill Family Restaurant in Lorton. "The fight is not over. We'll recruit. We'll fight hard. I never expected in the late 1970s when I came to America, and I first came to the airport, I had my little suitcase. I took the subway for the apartment that was waiting for me, and I was stunned by how big a place America was. And look at where I am now."

Munoz won Fairfax County by five votes (748 to 743), but lost big in Prince William County (2,626 to 793) and Stafford County (286 to 114).

Frederick now faces Democratic incumbent Toddy Puller, who has served in the Virginia State Senate since 2000. Puller was a State Delegate from 1992 – 2000. Frederick was a member of the House of Delegates.

A Quiet Day At The Polls

Overall voter turnout was low (even for a primary election), and some think Tuesday afternoon’s earthquake distracted people from voting after work.

Less than 10 percent of eligible voters in the State Senate 30th District voted Tuesday, and about 5 percent voted in the Senate 36th District. Voter participation rates were not yet available for the Fairfax County Sheriff’s primary.

Absentee ballots don't get counted until Wednesday, according to Susan Pollard, director of communications, Virginia State Board of Elections. Provisional ballots, for those who voted Tuesday but need their ballots verified, won't be counted until the verification process is complete. Elections aren't truly official until Sept. 6, when state officials certify them.

Ebbin Wins Senate Primary, 30th District

 defeated  and  in Tuesday’s primary. Ebbin, a current member of the Virginia House of Delegates, will be facing Republican Tim McGhee in November. The winner of that election will replace Sen. Patricia Ticer, who is retiring after more than 15 years serving residents at the state level.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Ebbin received about 38.8 percent of the vote, Krupicka received around 36 percent and Garvey received around 25.3 percent.

“Today, we couldn't even have an earthquake stop us," Ebbin told crowd of supporters at election party in Alexandria.

Cooper Wins Fairfax County Sheriff Primary

, who defeated  in Tuesday’s Republican primary, will face current Sheriff Stan Barry in November.  Cooper took more than 76 percent of the vote across Fairfax County.
