South County Federation Sets Lorton Transportation Priorities

Tired of the traffic? With congestion a growing concern in Lorton, the South County Federation has created a list of transportation priorities, which will be voted on at their meeting on Tues., Sept. 10, in the South County High School library. 

“The inadequacy of our transportation system is apparent from the daily experiences of our citizens,” reads the resolution. “Traffic congestion costs residents and businesses time, money and peace of mind and creates negative impressions.”

The list will be sent to Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerry Hyland, the Northern Virginia Regional Transportation Authority and the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Projects

Route 1 Underpass: Route 1 widening under the CSX bridge in Prince Williams County, north and southbound

Four Leaf Clover: Four leaf clover at Lorton and Silverbrook Rds. intersection

Mass Transit: Extend transit into Prince William County

Silverbrook Road Widening: Silverbrook widening from Monacan Rd to Old Barrington Blvd., and section improvements at Southrun Rd. 

Hooes Rd. Widening: Hooes Rd. widening at the Fairfax County Parkway to Ox Rd. including intersection improvement at Southrun Rd. 

Furnace Rd. Bridge: Removal of current one-lane bridge replaced by two-lane road east of Rt. 1

Amtrak Traffic Light: Create a solution to the non-visible traffic light at Lorton Rd./Amtrak Station

Lorton Road/ Workhouse Way: Grant temporary access through the median to allow access from Lorton Rd. SOuth onto Workhouse Way

Industrial Trucks: Limit trucks on Lorton Rd. from Ox. Rd. tio Route 1. 

Giles Run Rd: Remove the Comprehensive Plan connection to Laurel Crest Dr. 

Rolling Rd. Stop Sign: Rolling Road Stop sign near Chancellor Way

Rolling Road Widening: Opposed to widening of Rolling Road from the Parkway to Alban/Pohick intersection 

Rolling Road Pump: The Federation is looking for the removal of a dug up pump station sitting on Rolling Rd. near Chancellor Way.
