Rep. Moran Applauds Reinstatement of Olympic Wrestling

"Wrestling is a staple of the Olympics, dating back to the ancient Greek Games," Moran.

U.S. Rep. Jim Moran (D-8th) issued the following statement after the International Olympic Committee voted to allow wrestling back into the Olympic games in 2020 and 2024. The IOC reversed course on Sunday in Buenos Aires.

“Wrestling is a staple of the Olympics, dating back to the ancient Greek Games,” Moran, whose son wrestled in high school and college. “The IOC's decision to maintain it as an Olympic sport will keep dreams of Olympic glory alive for the thousands of young men and women who step onto the mat each year.”

Moran was a sponsor of House Resolution 71, which opposed the IOC’s February decision to eliminate the sport.
