Lorton Residents Donate $25,800 to Presidential Campaigns

Fairfax County residents donate more than $1 million.

Lorton area residents have contributed about $27,300 to presidential campaigns during the 2012 election cycle.

Residents in the 22079 ZIP code donated a total of about $25,800 to various presidential campaigns. Those living in the 22060 ZIP code donated about $1,500.

As of Feb. 21, 2012, former Gov. Mitt Romney’s campaign has received the most money from area community members, with a total of about $13,500, according to information at Opensecrets.org.

Former U.S. Rep. Newt Gingrich’s campaign had the second-highest amount in contributions, with about $6,700 from Lorton area ZIP codes.

President Barack Obama’s campaign has raised about $5,000 from residents.

The campaign to elect U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) received about $3,000.

Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum’s campaign received less than $100 in donations.

Fairfax County residents in Patch's coverage area have donated a total of more than $1.2 million to presidential campaigns.

More than half of those dollars have gone to Romney’s campaign, which has gained a total of more than $780,000 from Fairfax County residents. Obama has received the second-highest number of donations, with more than $620,000.

Gingrich has received more than $75,000 from county residents, while Santorum and Paul have collected less than $30,000 each.

The Virginia Republican Presidential Primary election will be held on Tuesday, March 6, but .

Polls are open between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.
