First Electric Sunday of the Year Has Strong Turnout

Part of Fairfax County recycling efforts

The first Electric Sunday event of the year at the I-95 Landfill Complex off Furnace Road can be considered a success. According to Bob Morrison, supervisor of the plant, yesterday's turnout was projected to approach 500 cars, that would be up from the most recent total of 435 .

"We thought the cold weather might keep people away, but we did real well," Morrison.

As always, residents could dispose of their household electronic goods free of charge. The most popular items were far and away cathode-tube televisions and personal computers, both of which have given way in recent years to flat screen televisions and laptops, respectively.

But even flat screen models are becoming obsolete faster. Morrison did note an unofficial increase in those models also.

The next Electric Sunday is scheduled for June 26.
