Two Injured at Occoquan Regional Park

Woman fell 20-30 feet, hit ground and then fell in Occoquan Quarry

A female hiker was injured today at Occoquan Quarry, when she fell 20-30 feet, hit the ground and then fell into the Occoquan Quarry. A male companion called 911 and was also injured in the process of attempting to rescue her.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue received the call at about 1 p.m. The adult woman was rescued approximately 30 minutes later, and suffered non-life threatening injuries. Her companion was with her in the water.

"We launched two inflatable boats and put her on a board, into the boat and took her to a pick-up zone to have her medevaced to Fairfax Hospital," said Fairfax County Fire and Rescue spokesman Dan Schmidt. "It took a while to get the boats in the water, probably about 30 minutes."
