Reckless Driving Charge in Fatal Wreck on I-95

One dead, two others had minor injuries in single-car crash near Lorton.

The driver has been charged in a fatal single-car wreck on Interstate 95 on Saturday morning near Lorton.

Rashid K. Humphreys, 30, of Yonkers, N.Y., a passenger in the car, was pronounced dead at Potomac Hospital. 

The driver, Thomas J. Smith, of Woodbridge, was charged with reckless driving.

According to Virginia State Police, a trooper was called to the area near mile marker 164 regarding a single car accident.

Smith was allegedly driving a 2009 Honda Civic, heading south along I-95 when it ran off the right side of the interstate and struck a tree, according to police.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Humphreys was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car.

Smith and a second passenger, Robert D. Brown Jr., of Fredericksburg, suffered minor injuries and were not transported for treatment, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

All southbound lanes of I-95 were re-opened by 8:35 a.m.
