Police To Hold Sobriety Checkpoints On Land And Water Over Labor Day Weekend

In an effort to deter impaired driving on land and on water Fairfax County police officers will conduct sobriety checkpoints over the Labor Day weekend.

On Saturday, September 3, officers from the Marine Patrol unit will conduct a sobriety checkpoint to deter and apprehend intoxicated boaters from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Boaters in Pohick Bay may be stopped and checked to assure that their abilities have not been impaired by alcohol or drugs.

On Sunday, September 4, officers will be teaming up with Prince William County Police and Virginia State Police troopers to hold a checkpoint in the Franconia Police District between 11 a.m. and 2 a.m.

In 2010, there were 32,760 drivers arrested for impaired driving across the state. Safe and sober driving continues to be a priority for the Fairfax County Police Department.
