Pedestrian Killed on Fairfax County Parkway Identified

It took time to notify his next of kin.

UPDATE: Patrick Early, 57, of Washington, D.C. has been identified as the pedestrian killed killed on the evening of March 11 on the Fairfax County Parkway near Fort Belvoir. Early's identity was witheld pending next of kin notification.

Early, who had no fixed address, and was struck by a 1997 Ford pick-up truck at around 11:20 p.m. in an unlit section of the Fairfax County Parkway going south near Ehlers Road. 

"He was standing in the roadway. We don't know why," said Fairfax County Police spokesperson Lucy Caldwell. "The driver saw the person standing there, he braked but it was too late."

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver was not charged and it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash. 

The Fairfax County Police Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the incident.
