Man, 69, Dies After Car Accident in Fort Belvoir

Alex Kovacs died after being injured in a car accident last month.

A 69-year-old man died as the result of injuries he got in a car accident in Fort Belvoir last month, the Fairfax County Police Department announced Tuesday.

At about 6 a.m. on Nov. 22, a 2007 Chevrolet Cobolt was trying to make a left turn from northbound Richmond Highway into 9114 Richmond Highway, according to police. 

The Cobalt was struck by a 2003 BMW driven by a 45-year-old man who was traveling southbound on Richmond Highway, police report. The driver of the Cobolt, Alex Kovacs of The Plains, Va., was ejected from his car.

Kovacs was taken to a local hospital, where he died on Dec. 6. The cause of the crash remains under investigation though it does not appear that alcohol is a factor.
