Lorton Man Arrested in Fatal Hit and Run in Ocean City

Police in Ocean City have arrested and charged a Lorton man in a fatal hit and run that took place in the early hours of Monday morning in Ocean City, a popular beach resort town in Maryland.

Police charged Diogo Miller Facchini, 30, with homicide by a motor vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a fatal collision, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol and a number of other traffic related charges, according to a news release from the police department.

Police say that Facchini, driving an Isuzu Rodeo, hit a 22-year-old man who was walking across Coastal Highway Monday at about 1:20 a.m. Witnesses followed the car until police apprehended the driver.

The pedestrian, Mathew Jude Cheswick, 22, of Cooksville, Md. was pronounced dead after being taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center.

After his arrest, Facchini was awaiting an appearance in front of an Ocean City District Court commissioner.Β
