Board of Supervisors to Honor Lorton Father and Daughter for Saving Family in House Fire

The fire occurred last month and the house was completely destroyed.

Mount Vernon District Supervisor Gerald Hyland has requested that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors recognize Lorton's  for helping save a neighboring family from a burning home on Easter weekend.

The home in the 7200 block of Forest Greens Drive in Lorton was completely destroyed due to an unattended candle.

Hyland asked unanimous consent at the May 1 supervisors' meeting that the Board direct staff to invite the Kims, and his family, as well as Chief Mastin and Assistant Chief Caussin to appear before the Board to recognize the Kims for saving the lives of their neighbors. Fellow supervisors agreed.

"I live at the top of the hill, and my daughter, Faith, told me that she saw smoke coming from down the street, so I jumped in my van and rushed down and saw that the entire left side of the house was engulfed in flames," Kim told Patch at the scene on April 7. "I knocked on the door and I entered and told everyone that they had to get out immediately... There was no smoke in the house, so it was like the fire started on the outside of the house."

"Putting his own safety aside, Mr. Kim forged ahead through the smoke to enter through the front door to round up and rescue two adults, one child and their dog," Hyland said at the meeting.
