The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department is now accepting applications for those interested in the department's citizens academy. The nine-week program is designed for residents interested in learning more about the department and its day-to-day procedures, according to a recent news release.

The Fire and Rescue Department will be accepting applications until Aug. 23 or until the class of 25 is filled. The academy will begin Sept. 19 and will meet from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at various locations for nine consecutive weeks. Each session will provide an in-depth overview of the fire department and its uniformed and civilian workforce. It will also cover different aspects of the department and how they serve the community.

Some of the program topics include fire suppression, emergency medical services, training, recruitment and special operations.

To sign up for the free program, you must be 18 years of age and apply online at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fr/cfa.
