Deck Catches Fire Saturday in Lorton

Firefighters arrived within one minute and no one was injured.

A deck that caught on fire at a Lorton home Saturday was quickly extinguished by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. The fire department was alerted Saturday at 11:50 a.m. of the fire on the back deck of a home in the 7200 block of Lynham Hill Circle. Firefighters were on the scene at 11:51 a.m., and no one was injured in the blaze. 

"The fire was knocked out within a minute or two," said Fairfax County Deputy Chief Mike Reilly. "At the time it was called in, the occupants saw the deck was on fire and tried to put it out with a garden hose."

A cause for the fire, which was described as "accidental" by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue, was not given.

The back deck was destroyed and siding was damaged, but the rest of the home was not damaged and no one was displaced.
