Stout interjects her thoughts and feelings about her favorite images throughout the book:

Regarding "Stickball Strike" depicting Overbrook...
"The band rolled back the clock and took us to a simpler time. Where women strolled donning big bonnets and petticoats while children wore knickers and played stick ball and jump rope. I enjoyed watching the nostalgic performance. Seeing so many generations twirling round together made my heart happy.

"

Regarding "Undead Pirate" depicting Polish American...
"A wickedly jolly presentation of pirate life that included peg legs, eye patches and hook hands!  The undead swashbucklers were my favorite.  Yo ho ho! They be ancient adventures stealing one last dance and swig of rum before returning to their watery graves!"

"Just in time for the New Years parade in Philly... Stout has captured the Mummers like no one before -- brilliantly colorful & exciting renditions many of museum quality...truly timeless and sure to please Mummers fans everywhere..." the Publisher.
