Finding The New Vibe At The Workhouse

My personal blog is covered in cobwebs. I've become a stranger to Facebook and have forsaken many of my art pages. Truth is, most mornings I don't want to get out of bed, but I am a warrior. Everyday I wake up, put on my big girl pants, drive my daughter to school, head to my studio at the Workhouse Arts Center and park my car behind building 4.  

I sit.

I stare.

I summon the courage to go inside.

Building Four at the Workhouse Arts Center was a thriving community of 14 artists, 13 of which I called friends. Now only 4 remain: Joan Yi, Ann Elizabeth Gedicks, Lynn Goldstein and myself. I've moved into a studio that used to belong to a colleague and it feels foreign. It has been a difficult transition and I have been getting my creative ass kicked on a daily basis. The empty studios seemed to foreshadow an impending doom. Everything I painted turned to mud. My depression felt like a bully who put me in a headlock, and used my own hand to smack me in the face while chanting, "quit hitting yourself".  

Well, no more! I challenged my sadness to a cage fight and knocked it into next week! I'm back, baby.

I am ecstatic to announce that John Gascot, amazing artist and snappy dresser, has juried into the Workhouse and is our newest studio member. He has brought a new energy and optimism to our space and I can't wait for you to meet him. So, break out your personal calendar and choose a date to come and see the new smaller, sassier building four.
