VRE Santa Trains Sell Out in One Day

The Christmas season is here

* Press release

An annual event that has continued to grow in popularity and become much anticipated in the region showed once again that the magic of Santa and the idea of giving never grow old. The Santa Trains, scheduled to operate on Saturday, December 10, 2011, are a collaborative effort with Operation Lifesaver, CSXT and Norfolk Southern. Santa and his helpers will be riding the trains spreading holiday cheer and the message of rail safety.

“The VRE Santa Trains are our way of helping make the holidays special, and we look forward to seeing everyone on the trains for this magical day.  What could be better than sharing a train ride with Santa and all your friends and family,” said VRE chair Sharon Bulova.

These special excursion trains will run from Fredericksburg and Woodbridge on the Fredericksburg line, and Burke Centre and Manassas on the Manassas line.
Tickets went on sale Monday, November 28, 2011 with online sales starting at 9:00 a.m. By 9:12 a.m., all online sales were completely sold out (with a limit of six tickets per person). Vendor sales closed at many locations before noon and the last tickets were sold by 2:00 pm.

VRE wants to thank the community for their continued support for these special excursion trains and also remind everyone that VRE will use this day to promote another of its favorite holiday traditions, the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” Program.

During the Santa Train excursions, Fredericksburg, Woodbridge, Manassas and Burke Centre stations will accept new, unwrapped toys.

VRE Chairman Sharon Bulova noted that “often the holidays are a time of reflection on the importance of our families and our communities.  The “Toys for Tots” Program reinforces that message by making tangible contributions to others in our communities to ensure that all children experience the joy of the holiday season.”
