Calling All Green Thumbs for the National Day of Service!

Volunteers needed to help plant a native wildlife garden at Mason Neck State Park on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, National Day of Service.

Come and get your hands a little dirty with the staff at Mason Neck State Park!  We are giving our Visitor Center building a new look by adding in a wildlife garden on Tuesday September 11, 2012 from 10:00am until 12:00pm.  We will provide the plants, shovels, gloves, as well as some refreshments to keep you going; all you need to bring is your green (or not so green) thumb!

Did you know that research has linked therapeutic benefits to regular gardening?  “Horticultural therapy” can promote physical, mental, and emotional healing.  Research has linked gardening with the release of endorphins, which alleviates stress.  Simply walking into a garden can decrease blood pressure.  It seems that what’s good for the garden can also be good for the gardener! So stop by Mason Neck State Park this Tuesday to experience the benefits of gardening first hand.

If interested in helping plant our wildlife garden please call the Mason Neck State Park Visitor Center at (703) 339-2380 for more information.
