Nominate a Park Volunteer for Fairfax County Park Authority Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 Elly Doyle Park Service Awards. The Fairfax County Park Authority is searching for "unique and giving" individuals and organizations which support local parks through volunteer service, according to its Web site.

These awards "recognize volunteers who make outstanding contributions of time and talent to the Fairfax County park system."

The Elly Doyle Park Service Award was established in 1988 in recognition of Ellamae Doyle’s many years of service and accomplishment as a member and chairman of the Park Authority Board. During her tenure, the park board expanded the park system, acquiring open space, providing new recreational facilities and protecting cultural, natural and historic resources in Fairfax County.

Anyone may submit a nomination. The awards are open to those who have made outstanding volunteer contributions in the past year. Groups and individuals are eligible. Past accomplishments may be presented in support of the nomination and should illustrate activities that promote the advancement of recreational and educational opportunities or the protection of natural and cultural resources in Fairfax County parks.

Generally, the Park Board Awards Committee presents three Elly Doyle Awards, five Special Recognition Awards and one Student Achievement Award. Nominations must be received by Friday, June 21. Awardees will be honored at a reception in November.
