Summertime! And the library's ready!

It's time for the Summer Reading Program - a non-competitive reading incentive program for preschoolers through rising high school seniors.  Registration can be done online at the library website http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library/srp/ or in person at Lorton Library or any one of our 22 other branches.

Participants simply read (or have someone read to them) the required number of books - 15 for students up to 6th grade, and eight books for rising 7-12 graders.  The books can be from our suggested reading lists or any other titles.  If a child reads a book to his kid brother, they both get to count it on their reading logs. Even babies can get in on the fun.  Books read to the little ones count, and babies can get coupon books too!  It’s never too early to develop the habit of enjoying a good book.  Readers who bring their completed logs to the library by August 31 receive a coupon book full of free and discounted goodies like ice cream treats, cookies, doughnuts, bowling, sporting events, and even . . . books!

When at the library, pick up a list of all the fabulous free performances and programs we have on tap.  Whether your children like dinosaurs or dancing, art or improvisational theater, we have something for everyone.  You can get more information on the library website www.fairfaxcounty.gov/library or by calling the Lorton Library at 703-339-7385. Have a happy summer!
