Community Corner

Tutoring Program/Volunteer

Do you want to make a
difference right here in your community?  Do you enjoy helping children
succeed?  Can you spare an hour a week?  Read on to learn more about
the LCAC One-to-One Tutoring Program.

 Volunteers will work
one-to-one with youth in grades 2 through 6 helping with homework, math,
spelling, reading comprehension, vocabulary and/or grammar.  Volunteers
work with the same youth each week, communicate with the child's teacher via
email and get to witness the 'ah ha' moments by the student.  The tutoring
program runs from the beginning of October through the beginning of June from
7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

 Volunteers must be willing
to have a police criminal/sexual offender background check completed prior to
being a tutor volunteer.

 No previous tutoring
experience is necessary.  A love of children and a desire to help a child
succeed as well as an encouraging attitude are the attributes we are seeking in
our tutor volunteers.  To see the smile on a child's face when s/he 'get'
it is something that lasts with you a very long time.  Contact Kathy at Kathy@lortonaction.org to learn how
you, too, can be part of the fabulous tutoring team!
