Route 1 Near Fort Belvoir Closed Monday Evening

For delivery of steel girders needed for bridge construction;

From Fort Belvoir earlier today:

Beginning Monday, April 18th, construction crews will be temporarily stopping traffic on U.S. Route 1 for three separate , 20-minute increments anytime between  7 p.m. and 6 a.m.  During these delays, a crane will lift a single, 110-foot steel girder into place over the road as part of the new bridge construction for Fort Belvoir’s Gunston Road. Once the girder is safely bolted down and the crane and crews are safely off the road, Route 1 will be reopened to traffic.  These temporary traffic delays will continue through Saturday, April 23rd. While the permit allows for closures during the time mentioned above, every effort will be made to do the closures during the middle of the night to reduce impacts.
