Lorton rainfall Nov 26 - Dec 2, 2012; Winter Preparedness Week

Daily rainfall totals for previous 24 hours measured at 6am from my rain gauge in Lorton.

The governor has declared the week of Dec 2 - 8 as Winter Preparedness Week in Virginia.  Even though forecasts have been non-committal on the severity of this year’s winter, that doesn’t mean it won’t be without it’s share of peril.  It’s still winter, after all, so it gets cold and snows.  How much?  I’ve made a chart of snowfall over the last 20 winters as measured at Dulles Airport.  As you can see, some winters have a lot of snow, some have very little, and it looks like this year should be somewhere in the middle.

My rain gauge in Lorton recorded the following precipitation at 6am on the day indicated for the previous 24 hours:

Date Precip Mon 11/26/2012 0.00” Tue 11/27/2012 0.01” Wed 11/28/2012 0.07” Thu 11/29/2012 0.00” Fri 11/30/2012 0.00” Sat 12/01/2012 0.00” Sun 12/02/2012 0.00” Totals : 0.08”
