Lorton Rainfall June 11-17, 2012

Daily rainfall totals for previous 24 hours measured at 6am from my rain gauge in Lorton.

This week, the astronomers join the students and the meteorologists and regular folks in agreeing that it’s finally summer.  The 2012 summer solstice is Wednesday 6/20.  Astronomically, this is when the sun reaches its highest position in the sky as seen from the North Pole, which also means the days are longest and the nights are shortest.  With our sunrise at 5:44am and sunset at 8:37pm we have 14 hours 53 minutes of sunlight on Wednesday.

This week was another week where we got little rainfall. We’re short ½” of rain for the month of June, and most of our rain fell on June 1.  We’ve really had only one rainy day since then (Tuesday night), so things are a little dry.
