Lorton rainfall July 9 - 15, 2012

Daily rainfall totals for previous 24 hours measured at 6am from my rain gauge in Lorton.

Where you were really mattered with respect to this week’s rain.  On Saturday evening I was driving on Old Keene Mill Road through a deluge in West Springfield, but arrived home in Lorton to dry pavement and an empty rain gauge.   Summer thunderstorms can result in wide ranges of precipitation over short distances.  Although my rain gauge had less than ¼” of rain last week, another observer in Franconia by Huntley Meadows Park had over 2” of rain. 

My rain gauge in Lorton recorded the following precipitation at 6am on the day indicated for the previous 24 hours:
